Before James Franco took on the role of Dave Skylark in ‘The Interview’ and p*ssed off North Korea. Before he received a Golden Globe award for his depiction of James Dean in the cable BioPic. Before he kissed half the dudes in Hollywood and grabbed phone numbers off underage fans.

James first toyed with the idea of becoming a marine zoologist. He was a troubled teen who almost went to juvenile detention but got his act together and was enrolled at UCLA. He dropped out in his freshman year to pursue acting. He worked at McDonald’s and at Medival Times to tie himself over for cash as he took acting classes for 15 months.

Actor James Franco was born in Palo Alto, California, on April 19, 1978. His mother, Betsy Lou née Verne, is a writer and occasional actress – the two actually acted opposite one another on General Hospital, and his father, Douglas Eugene Franco ran a business in Silicon Valley.

James was the eldest of three boys and brother to Dave and Tom. His father is of Portuguese and Swedish descent and his Franco's mother’s family were Russian Jewish immigrants.

James was a late Bloomer when it came to puberty and recalls wondering why he hadn’t started growing hair under his armpits like his peers, he concluded that it was because he spent too much time m*sturbating. Growing up he was also a vegetarian.

His father pressured him to get good grades and he excelled at math but found his passion for the arts early on. In Highschool at Palo Alto High he took the stage in the school plays and during the summer was enrolled in California State Summer School For The Arts.

He got distracted for some time and was arrested to underage drinking, graffiti and for running an illegal operation of stealing cologne from department store and then selling them at school.

He got his act together, got good grades and scored well on his SAT’s and got into UCLA as a major in English. He had always wanted to be an actor but feared the rejection. He discovered that in UCLA it would take two years before he could audition for the acting program so he dropped out against his parents wished.

He was cut off from his parents financially and instead had to work the late nigh drive thru at McDonald’s. During the day he studied under Robert Carnegie at the Playhouse West. He would train relentlessly for 15 months, he would practice accents on the customers at McDonalds.
