The USS Constellation was launched in Baltimore, Maryland, on September 7th of 1797. It was rebuilt in 1854, using some of its original parts. Over the years, she was engaged in several conflicts. As years pass, a history emerges, and that history sometimes gives birth to whispers of those who've gone on before us. With 150 years of history and conflict, it’s no wonder that it was thought to be haunted.

In 1799, Neil Harvey, a sailor onboard, was bound to and blasted apart by one of its cannons. His offense—cowardness. He is often seen as a misshapen blob of mist. The captain who ordered his execution also is said to haunt the ship. Thomas Truxton is often seen pacing the decks. A photo of a ghostly figure walking the deck was taken in 1955 by Lieutenant Commander Allen Ross Brougham and published in The Baltimore Sun. The apparition of Captain Truxton appears to be drawing his sword.

On a lighter note, the more modern ghost of Carl Hansen, who was a ship watchman until 1963, is sometimes mistaken as a real person. He has even been known to give visitors tours of the ship.

There have also been reports of an eleven-year-old boy who was slain by two sailors below deck. And the decks are also said to be haunted by a sailor who took his own life.

The USS Constellation is docked in Baltimore, Maryland, and is now a museum. For the truly brave, overnight stays can be arranged.
