The HEAVY palm strike can either be used up close in tight situations when you've allowed yourself to be dominated by your attacker or when you have room to react because you've "intercepted" an attacker's aggressive intent to harm you. In both instances, contact is made with the meaty part of your palm while keeping your whole arm relaxed until the point of impact, retractiing your arm back into a protective stance before leaving the area. ( Remember to have your elbow pointing downward and your arm fully extended with a 2" to 3" penetration at the point of contact as you sink your weight downward turning your hip toward your attacker. ) Your body at this point should represent the archer's position when the bowstring is fully pulled back before releasing the arrow.
