I believe that there actually was a total eclipse of the sun that darkened the whole earth during the crucifixion of Jesus. The Paschal Full Moon is the first full Moon that coincides historically to Passover. In order for there to be a total eclipse during the actual crucifixion the moon would have to physically move. I believe this would have been possible because the moon is artificial.
