Early 2000s Orange County, California punk rock skateboarding culture. No fluff, no filler, straight up good times with friends. A carefree party atmosphere.
Mike’s Pool aka the KNAC Pool aka the Original Basic Pool is the longest running backyard pool in Orange County skateboarding history. It's also where the soundtrack for The Dogtown and Z-Boys Documentary was recorded. This day it was a party, not sure what the occasion was, maybe a birthday, who knows. It was a celebration of freedom, fun and good times with friends with some pool skateboarding and live punk rock bands thrown in.
The bands that were scheduled to play were FTA, Lung Cookie, Angst, Edison. I think we got 2 sets in before the cops came to shut down the bands. The party continued until every drop of beer was drunk and the last grind of the night was done. Great times. Kids, if you see your parents acting crazy, don’t judge them these were different times. Can we get them back please?
This pool was very difficult to ride well. Very few could really skate it the way it needed to be ridden. Parties were always fun to see people get faded and try to skate. Most skaters were scared to ride here. That’s Mike’s Pool in a nutshell. More hilarious videos and stories to drop. Stay tuned.
