A "rain of worms" flooded Beijing this week, according to videos posted on social networks. In the images, it is possible to see the "animals" covering streets and vehicles. The Chinese authorities recommended citizens to leave home with umbrellas, according to the newspaper El Herald.

The Argentinian newspaper Perfil reported that the phenomenon is not a "rain of worms", but a "storm" of poplar flowers. This flower species is shaped like a lizard. Due to the rain, the leaves may have fallen from the trees and stuck to the cars. Moreover, poplar flowers are common in Beijing.
