In this video, I take on a very challenging vocal piece: Led Zeppelin's KASHMIR! Let me know how you think I did!

Kashmir Reimagined.

Growing up on Led Zeppelin, I couldn't even pretend to count how many times I've heard this song (as did all of us who grew up in the 70s).

I'm thinking probably close to 1,000 times over the past almost 50 years (this song came out in 1975).

I also can't tell you how many times I've heard cover bands cover this song over and over. Much like the Led Zeppelin song "Rock and Roll" and the ubiquitous "Stairway To Heaven" (you remember in Wayne's World, where this was the one song that could not be played in the guitar store? Well, that, and Smoke On The Water, ha, ha).

So what's my point?

My point is that while I am a vocal coach, I have over 40 records out and approach my teaching from an artist's perspective.

And pretty much like every song I do, I always try to contribute something to it, rather than doing the same old, same old.

So I thought about it. I thought about reimagining Kashmir, not just from a singing perspective, but also an instrumental perspective.

So when I heard the Godzilla movie soundtrack with Puff Daddy ft. Jimmy Page "Come With Me" (Puff Daddy renamed Kashmir), I was pretty blown away on how slamming the track was!

Not to put Puff Daddy down at all, I was just surprised that there was anything he did that I personally could see myself doing, and even more surprised that he could take such an epic classic rock track and make it slam even a little harder than the original (he removed the melody, removed the bridge, and rapped to it).

So I thought, if he was able to reimagine it, I would take it a step further by:

1) Using my favorite rock vocal influences such as Robert Plant, David Coverdale, Paul Rodgers, Dio, Lou Gramm, etc.

2) Contributing different melodic influences to try to take this song to a new level and still maintaining the integrity and original intent of the artist.

With all that said, this is precisely the inspiration that drove me to create this vocal demonstration.

I hope you can appreciate the liberties I took with this :-)
