I've been reading Robert Cialdini's terrific book "Influence." It's a lengthy tome on the psychology of persuasion, and reading it has given me a much better understanding of why people do what they do.

Lately I've been railing about the Branch COVIDian "Bitter Clingers" and their inability to move on. Having just finished Cialdini's chapter on consistency, the explanation might be as simple as that. Consistency.

I.e., maintaining a consistency of thought, even in the face of all evidence to the contrary.
