Kevin Annett is a pastor, writer, author, and activist whose work has focused on the treatment of the Indigenous peoples of Canada by the Canadian government. A former minister in the United Church of Canada, Annett was defrocked in 1995 after he began to speak out against the church's treatment of the native populace. Annett gained widespread attention for his claims that the Canadian government and churches were responsible for the deaths and disappearances of thousands of Indigenous children who were forced to attend residential schools, where they were subjected to abuse and neglect. He has also been involved in campaigns to expose other forms of institutional abuse, including the trafficking of children and the mistreatment of people with disabilities. He has continued to be an outspoken advocate for Indigenous rights, and has written several books on the subject.
