Never do this to your double barrel shotgun! How to overcome?
Double barrel shotguns are not good to dry fire because dry firing can cause damage to the firing pins and the internal mechanisms of the gun. When a shotgun is fired, the firing pins strike the primer of the shotgun shell, which ignites the gunpowder and causes the shell to discharge.
Dry firing, on the other hand, involves pulling the trigger without any ammunition in the gun. This causes the firing pins to strike the gun's internal components without any cushioning effect from the ammunition, leading to increased stress and wear on these parts.
In a double barrel shotgun, the firing pins are often set to strike the primer in the center of the shotgun shell. Without the cushioning effect of the shotgun shell, the firing pins can be damaged and may even break if dry fired repeatedly.
To avoid damage to your double barrel shotgun, it's best to use snap caps or dummy rounds when practicing dry firing. These simulate the feel of a real shotgun shell and provide the necessary cushioning effect to protect the firing pins and internal mechanisms of the gun.
