Why did Judas betray Jesus?

Usually, when people betray their friends or loved ones, it’s to gain power and influence. They try to get richer or more popular, and betrayal will help them do that.

However, Judas got none of those things when he betrayed Jesus. In fact, he never expected any of these things when doing so. Why then would he bother betraying Jesus?
