Unboxing the Retro Bit Limited Edition of R-Type Returns for the SNES & Super Famicom by IREM
In this video, we unbox the Limited Edition of R-Type Returns for the Nintendo Super NES and the Super Famicom.
December 29, 2017. I remember this date because Ginger and I were watching Baby Driver, and I have to admit I was bored to tears. Then something happened that made me super excited. No, I'm not talking about the ending chase scene which was ok but definitely full of movie tropes. I'm talking about a text from Ryan at Castlemaniagames.com. He was looping me in to let me know that there was a special edition cartridge coming to the Castle from IREM and Retro-bit gaming. It would combine 2 of the greatest schmups of all time, R-Type III, and Super R-Type. This would be called R-Type Returns, and I knew I had to have one!
After patiently waiting, ok, so not so patiently waiting, the Limited Edition boxed set for R-Type Returns is finally here and beginning to ship. Retro-bit has gone all out in this Limited Edition, as it not only has an amazing cartridge but also has some great extras too.
The outer box of the set is what you would expect from a limited edition collectors set for CDs, DVDs or any other collectors media. The R-type Logo is embossed on the front of the box itself which looks amazing. Inside the box, you are greeted by a great looking certificate of authenticity. The cartridge box is right under this, and under the cart is where the real goodies are found.
Retro-bit includes a number of different stickers, representing different aspects of the game. Several cards, they almost look like postcards, are also included and have anime-style images printed on them and they are absolutely gorgeous. There's a great looking hardcover notebook included and, honestly, I wish there were 2 so I could actually use one! Finally, there are two pins included with the set and they are right up there with the pins I would collect from Disney. They look amazing and wrap up what is an overall gorgeous package.
Perhaps the coolest part of this package is the manual, at least to me. There's a special thanks section in the manual with shoutouts to certain people within the gaming community. People I know and respect were given well-deserved nods, Including Ryan at CastlemaniaGames.com, Shawn Long (RGT85), Radical Reggie & John Riggs. What really took me by surprise, however, was that my name and the name of this channel, RoXolid Productions, is also given a shoutout and thank you. This was truly humbling to see and really means a lot.
If you a fan of the R-Type series you need to order one of these bad boys. Yes, you can get the originals and they're not super expensive, but you won't get the additional items included with this limited Collectors Edition. This entire package is amazingly well put together with a great value for the money. I am thrilled to have this in my collection, humbled at the shoutout and recognition in the manual, and excited to plug this into my Super Nintendo and take command of the R-9A Arrowhead and blow some stuff up!
