In this video, we share information we just received from Hyperkin on their new upcoming Admiral Nintendo 64 Wireless Bluetooth controller.

Hot off the press release, we just got information from Hyperkin regarding the new wireless controller that they are developing for the Nintendo 64. There's lots of buzz around the N64 right now, mostly due to speculation about an N64 Classic Edition. This controller, however, is for the OG N64, the original.

Press Release:
Hyperkin To Release the Admiral, a Pro-Style Bluetooth Controller for the N64
November 9, 2018 – LOS ANGELES – Hyperkin has announced plans to release a pro-style Bluetooth controller for the N64 - honorably named the Admiral - in Q1 of 2019. The Admiral uses a more traditional design, in lieu of the familiar trident shape. This design is preferred for high-performance competition in titles such as Super Smash Bros., GoldenEye 007, Mario Kart 64, and many more.

Right out of the gate, the design is definitely inspired by the Hori Pad Mini, and I think that's a good thing. It actually really reminds me of a split between the Hori Pad Mini and the Brawler 64 from Retro Fighters. This appears to be a little bit wider so it may be a little bit more comfortable than the Hori Pad Mini.

One of the key features for me about this controller is the fact that it is wireless Bluetooth. wmWhat's nice about that is you don't have any cords to deal with, definitely a benefit and something we have not seen from a Nintendo 64 controller in a few years. Combine that with a more traditional gamepad design and I think you have an aesthetically fantastic device.

Hyperkin did something really unique with the memory card, they took it out of the controller and they actually put the memory card slot in the dongle that connects to the N64 itself. In addition, they also took a page out of the Dexdrive and incorporated save state backups via microSD card into the dongle. It's a pretty smart decision and something I really dig.

One thing not shown off in the press release was the back of the controller. I'm interested to see if it will have a slot for a rumble pack, or quite honestly if Hyperkin incorporated the rumble inside the Admiral controller itself. If it's inside and built into the controller I think that is going to be outstanding.

We do not have any definitive release date beyond Quarter 1 of 2019. We also don't have pricing information as of yet either. make sure that you stay subscribed to the channel as we will share more information as we get it.
