Picking Up My PlayStation 5 Pre-Order from GameStop Was a NIGHTMARE!

In this video, we share some of the problems we had actually picking up our PlayStation 5 Pre-Order from our local GameStop.

You know when you really look forward to something, then it doesn't meet your expectation? Well, what about if you have an issue before you even have a chance to do the thing you were looking for? That scratches the surface of the problems I ran into trying to pick up my PlayStation 5 I pre-ordered at my local GameStop on launch day. It was nothing as nefarious as not being able to find my pre-order or not having a console for me. No, my problems started when I went to pay for my PlayStation 5.

When I pre-ordered my system, I also pre-ordered the Media Remote, Charging Stand, Sack Boy, and Miles Morales. I ended up getting a Media Remote and Charging Stand early, so I didn't need them on launch day. I also switched my pre-order of Miles Morales from GameStop to Live Action Games. This meant that all I needed to pickup from GameStop was the system itself and my copy of Sack Boy.

Since I did a livestream while waiting, I was one of the last in-line before the store opened. I had my system secured, so I wasn't worried. Once in the store, I gave them my receipt information and the manager went and grabbed my stuff from the back room. He tallied my total, minus over $200 in trade-in credit I had with some of my recent pickups, and got my total. And this is where the frustration really kicked into gear.

We tried looking up my GameStop account, and the system couldn't find my information. I entered and re-entered my information, yet they still couldn't find my account. "OK", I thought, I have my card with me for a change, we'll just use that, right? Wrong! The card wouldn't read, no matter what we tried. I asked the staff what to do, and they kicked me to the GameStop Credit Card customer support line. Hmmm, when I worked at RadioShack if I had a customer with a RadioShack Answer Plus Credit Card that had an issue I would call on their behalf. Well, it was a busy launch day and I didn't want to hold up the line, so I stepped aside and called in.

The person I talked to was, to be blunt, worthless. They verified the account was in good standing, that I had enough open-to-buy, but claimed that my name was mis-spelled on the account. That didn't hold water to me, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. We verified all the other vital information and said everything should be ok. With this piece of info, we tried checking out again.

Declined.

I asked the store manager what to do and he said to call again, but when I got a rep to let him talk to them. I proceeded to hold, again, for almost 30-minutes. When I got a rep, I explained the issue, that this was the 2nd call, and that I needed assistance. They told me to have the store staff look my account up. I told them I did already. They told me to have them try the card up and down through the swipe, we told them we did. I asked how else we could push the transaction through, and I handed the store manager the phone.

They re-verified that everything was in good standing, there was available credit, and that there's no good reason why the account would be declined. Then we changed to the other Point of Sale system, ran the card, APPROVED. That's right, the problems were 100% related to the register and card reader on that side of the store.

In the end it took almost 2-hours to check out with my pre-order. I was the last one to leave with their pre-order from the store, after being the 12th or 13th person in-line. The good news is I have my system, and it all ended well.
