Mario 35th Anniversary Reaction: Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 3D World & More Coming to to Switch!
In this video, we discuss the exciting announcements regarding the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario and the Nintendo direct from September 3rd, 2020.
I love franchises such as Earthworm Jim, Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo, and others, but the original franchise I fell in love with has to be Super Mario Brothers. To this day, Super Mario Brothers is why I love platforming games so much. The challenges, the puzzles, the action, the platforming, there's so much here to enjoy.
With this impromptu Nintendo direct, the big N dropped quite a few bombshells on us. Many of which were already rumoured by people in the community, other items caught everybody completely off guard.
Nintendo kicked off the direct with an all-new handheld, a color screen Game & Watch that features the original Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2 from Japan, and Game & Watch: Ball. At $50 it is a neat novelty, however, there are so many ways to play Mario 1 and 2 that I don't know that beyond the hardcore collector that there is a whole lot of appeal here.
There had been a rumor for some time that Super Mario 3D World from the Wii U would be coming to the Switch, and Nintendo made it official. However, they are adding additional content in a Bowser's Fury add on. What this is, we don't really know yet, but I'm excited to check it out. I just really hope this is a $40 and not $60 game.
The next announcement that Nintendo had in their direct was probably what made me the most excited, and that was Mario Kart Live Home Circuit. In this one release Nintendo has combined it two of my loves, video games and radio controlled cars. It appears to use some form of augmented reality camera inside the physical car itself which will feed data back to your Nintendo Switch. This is an absolutely unique and amazing way to play, I do hope however that they announce additional carts in the future.
Nintendo also announced a Super Mario Brothers 35, very similar to Tetris 99, and a version of Super Mario All-Stars for the Switch online services. Both are great additions, I am bummed that Mario 35 will only be available for about 6 months
The final reveal from Nintendo was one of their worst kept secrets, and that was the announcement of Super Mario 3D All Stars coming for the Nintendo Switch on September 18th. This cartridge will feature Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, and Mario Galaxy all optimized for the Nintendo switch. I like the fact that these are not complete remasters and things such as the way Mario looks in Mario 64 is still accurate. I cannot wait to play these games on my Switch, even though I actually own all three original titles on their original platforms. Much like Mario 35, this 3D All Star collection will only be available until March 2021.
I am excited in geeked about many of these announcements, and I have already pre-ordered my Super Mario 3D all Stars. I look forward to opening and playing that title, along with Mario Kart live home circuit. While I do wish Nintendo would have come out with new content for Mario's 35th anniversary, this is a pretty decent collection that they have come out with.
