Mary Kathleen abandoned uranium mine camping!! | Episode 16

This episode we stayed at the Ghost town of Mary Kathleen where it once was a small community for the uranium mine. This was closed permanently in 1982 and now the current owner of the land allows campers to stay for free on the concrete slabs of the old town buildings.
The Mary Kathleen uranium mine was commissioned in 1956 and fulfilled the first contract and closed in 1963. It was re-opened in 1974 and by 1982 it had fulfilled the second contract and the mine was considered 'mined out' and subsequently closed for the final time. It is another amazing part of Australian history and great to experience.
