Initially building of the castle begun in 1138 by Norman lord William d'Albini for his new wife, who was the widow of Henry I, the castle went on to become the luxurious home of Queen Isabella, the widow (and alleged murderess) of Edward II during the 14th century.

Today, the castle is owned and managed by Lord Howard of Rising, offering visitors an incredible glimpse into England's rich history and architectural prowess.
