Keyontae Johnson spent his childhood growing up in the nearby city of Norfolk, and eventually attended Norview High School where he became a star on the school’s basketball team for two years before transferring to the prestigious IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida during his junior year. At the time, Johnson was already a 6-foot-5, four-star prospect who traveled all the way from Virginia to Florida to improve his overall skillet and jumping ability. After making the transfer, Johnson quickly found himself a new home where he became close to head coach Vince Walden. More than just that, he also fell in love with the state-of-the-art weight room and was relishing his role as a starter on a star-studded team. Once his coach left to pursue an opportunity elsewhere, most of the staff at IMG departed with him. That left Johnson with a choice of his own to make, stay in Florida or return home and play for Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia.
