A police officer in Nevada was shot in the leg during a shootout and was rescued by a good Samaritan. The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Body cam footage has been released, showing the intense moments when the officer was shot multiple times by an armed suspect. The incident occurred at the Southridge Apartments on the evening of January 8th, where police had responded to suspicious circumstances with possible shots fired. Upon arrival, police found someone who had been beaten, and secured the apartment. Two men believed to be involved in the battery were not present at the time, but multiple guns were found in the apartment. Later, when the two men returned to the apartment armed with several guns, the first officer on the scene, Sergeant Steve Mayfield, chased after them and was shot in the leg. He continued shooting at the suspects while on the ground, and other officers and good Samaritans provided cover and aid. Mayfield underwent several surgeries for gunshot wounds to his legs and abdomen. Officer Stephen Greenlee expressed gratitude for the armed citizen who provided cover and for the community members who aided the downed officer in a dangerous situation.
