Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) failed after a bank run on March 10, 2023, marking the second-largest bank failure in United States history and the largest since the 2008 financial crisis. It was one of three March 2023 United States bank failures.

SVB, a regional lender with $210 billion in assets, served the tech industry for 40 years. The roots of SVB’s collapse stem from dislocations spurred by higher rates. As startup clients withdrew deposits to keep their companies afloat, SVB was forced to sell assets to meet the demand for cash.

How does printing money cause inflation?

Printing more money causes inflation because it increases the amount of money in circulation and this means that there is more cash available for people to buy things with, which drives up prices. If the money supply increases faster than output then, ceteris paribus, inflation will occur. If more money is printed, consumers are able to demand more goods, but if firms have still the same amount of goods, they will respond by putting up prices. In a simplified model, printing money will just cause inflation
