Welcome to Task & Purpose; subscribe for video content made by Veterans. Chris Capelluto is an infantry Iraq War Veteran bringing you an inside look at the military news and culture.

We spoke to the people at General Dynamics to get some details on their bid to replace the Army's M4 carbine and M249 SAW with a 6.8mm rifle that fires polymer-cased ammo.

The jump from the 5.56 to the 6.8mm ammo type means more energy at further distances. The bullpup design is a controversial approach. Each rifle will have a suppressor that is 3D printed. Check out our exclusive footage from the showcasing of the carbine at the DC expo.

This rifle is able to have a longer barrel while remaining short enough for the CQB requirements.
What do you think of this bid? Should the US Army go with a different prototype? Let us know your thoughts.
