One of the most beautiful sites to visit and interesting to see in the north of Tunisia. UNESCO placed this site on the World Heritage List in 1997, considering it to be the “best preserved small Roman town in North Africa.

Before the Roman annexation of Numidia, the city of Thugga, built on a hill overlooking a fertile plain, was the capital of a Libyan-Punic state. It flourished under Roman and Byzantine rule but declined during the Islamic period. The ruins visible today testify in an imposing way to the resources of a small Roman town on the borders of the Empire.
