This Is Like Heaven to Me

Originally performed by The Carter Family, this song was passed on to me by a dear friend and brother in Jesus named Don Murphy. He has since crossed over The Jordan and entered into fair Canaan’s land. Singing this song unites us because now we sing it together.

“Crossing the Jordan” from The Bible in Joshua chapter 3 refers to The Israelites crossing over the Jordan River to enter the promised land of Canaan. Those who repent a life of sin and death cross turn their eyes and hearts upon Jesus, which feels an awful lot like heaven to those who experience it. Hence, the happy and free feeling.

All who call upon the name of Jesus have crossed over the Jordan and now reside in Canaan’s fair lands.
