HF146 Summary

Minnesota Bill HF146 is quickly moving through the Minnesota House.

Keep in mind that transgender individuals are already protected from discrimination under Minnesota’s Human Rights, and individuals can seek gender-affirming care in MN. However, it requires parental consent.

Questions and concerns we have:

How does this affect our mentally vulnerable populations? Are there any protections against them being manipulated?

Does this law override guardianship laws?

How does this law intersect with Minnesota’s diverse cultures, religions, and immigrant populations? Does this force cultural assimilation?

What are the limits? Anything goes?

Is it considered not providing gender affirming care if a parent has valid concerns over the side effects of a particular procedure?

What if a family has medical contraindications to a specific medication?

Is there really no age limit? Can a 12 year old make permanent body modifications? 5 year old?

Is it a conflict of interest to allow doctors to petition the courts when they profit from the care they are advocating for?

How does this law affect custody proceedings? Does this pave a way for a noncustodial (potentially unfit or abusive) parent or adult to legally kidnap a minor?

......

Many concerned citizens have reached out and asked us to inform our followers that the bill will be heard on the House floor this Thursday, March 23rd @ 3:30pm. Many concerned families will be gathering outside the House chambers in opposition of the bill, starting at 2:30.

As always, please stay kind and stay on the topic of the bill.

(Also please be respectful of the wedding that will take place in the rotunda at 4:15.)
