Mar. 21, 1963 - Davey Moore, dethroned featherweight champion, was taken unconscious by ambulance tonight to White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles an hour after he was knocked out in the 10th round by Sugar Ramos at Dodger Stadium. Ramos, coming back twice from near destruction, had scored a dramatic, 2-knockdown 10th-round knockout over Moore. An hour after losing the title, Moore was rolled out of his dressing room on a transfer table. His eyes were closed, ice bags were placed on both sides of his head, and an oxygen tube was in his mouth. Clayton Frye, secretary of the California Athletic Commission, who had been in the dressing room, said Moore had been talking to his manager, Willie Ketchum, and his other handlers, and “apparently lapsed into unconsciousness.” Ketchum said he felt Davey was suffering from exhaustion, but other witnesses said Moore complained that his head was hurting. A hospital spokesman said Moore would be kept under observation overnight.
