Copyright Work Made For Hire vs. Copyright Assignment

In this video, Attorney Steve® discusses the Copyright Work Made For Hire doctrine under United States Copyright Law. This is a basic overview of the 9 categories that qualify for work made for hire, and if you get a written contract for any of these nine areas you can obtain ownership of copyrights created by third party independent contractors such as (designers, editors, writers and developers of creative content).

NOTE: If you are hiring for work that does not fit within these categories, you can still consider having the third party artist or creator ASSIGN THEIR COPYRIGHTS to you. You can then register them.

These are very important issues to consider given that the right piece of intellectual property ("IP") can potentially fetch millions of dollars in revenues.

We can help with copyright work for hire agreements, fair use opinion letters, copyright assignments, DMCA law, copyright infringement, creative commons and other IP and entertainment law issues.
