In this video, civil litigation & IP lawyer Attorney Steve Vondran explains the "waiver of service of summons" document and the benefits of voluntarily accepting service of the summons and complaint.

WAIVER OF SERVICE OF SUMMONS

After the complaint is filed, the next step of the lawsuit is to serve summons on the defendant. The summons is a notice that a lawsuit has been filed, and it includes information about the court date and other important details. Summons must be served by an impartial third party, such as a process server or sheriff. In some cases, the defendant may waive service, which means that they agree to receive the summons and do not need to be formally served. Once service is complete, the litigation process can begin.
