Scooby Doo was a mistake by Freddie Prinze Jr.
I am a huge Sarah Michelle Gellar and Scooby-Doo fan. I watched the movies but I just learned that the original Scooby-Doo films were meant to be R-rated. What the heck? Anyway, Freddie Prinze Jr. stated that he regretted the Scooby Doo version they made. He claims that the studio did a "bait-and-switch" with him and that the script he signed to was not the one they actually ended up filming. Freddie Prinze Jr. won't likely be playing Fred Jones again as a blonde. In the early 2000s, Linda Cardellini, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Matthew Lillard all played roles in...
In the early 2000s, Linda Cardellini, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Matthew Lillard all played roles in live-action "Scooby-Doo". Raja Gosnell directed the films and James Gunn wrote the scripts. He went on to be a huge star in pop culture with "Guardians of the Galaxy" as well as his new role of co-CEO of DC Studios. The two films raked in a lot of cash at the box office for Warner Bros., though they weren't exactly critically-appreciated hits. The projects were loved by kids, but they left a lot to be desired by older viewers who grew up with the cartoons. Prinze Jr., Gunn and others have confirmed that the original script was a more mature film. Gunn said it received an R-rating by the MPAA before being reduced to PG. Gunn says that the R-rated cut is legend but "doesn’t exist anymore." TooFab asked Lillard if he would be willing to perform a Scooby-Doo with the original cast from Comic-Con 2013. Before Prinze replied on Twitter, he said he would. Gunn then added to the discussion, saying that he thought they would do it if asked. "I don't have the time." It wouldn't be something that I would do. I have zero interest... It wouldn’t be for me. They weren't straight forward in any shape or manner." It wasn't the most enjoyable. He said that he's had two regretful jobs, and Scooby was one. Prinze previously stated that the script he received when he arrived in Australia to film Scooby was completely different to the one he had signed up for... and even considered quitting on the spot. "I'm a very honest man, man. When I'm lied to, you are dead to me. I won't ever trust you again." He continued, "I'm telling you, never again." "So, some of these people would still have to be involved if the project was remade. That's not a business I want to be associated with." Prinze Jr. stated, "I will only work with people who I love and trust and who also love and respect me." Although the final product wasn't what he had in mind, the actor admitted that he now appreciates Fred's time because of the reactions from his fans over the years. He explained that Scooby was something he didn't appreciate until he was actually seen. Then, children approached me and said, "Oh my gods!" "And when they were able to understand the experience through their souls -- that's what I did, they're carrying their souls. "I remember watching this video as a child and making my dad watch it thirty times. They're sharing their lives, that's your soul. He continued, "Hey, man! We did well!" "We did well, there are legit millions that love this movie. Although it wasn't the movie that I had in mind, I appreciated it and it helped me to change my perspective. [From TooFab.com] It's a good thing that they didn't film an R-rated cartoon for children. Imagine an R-rated Scooby-Doo. Even Gossip Girl's HBO version was not comfortable. James Gunn wrote the R-rated Scooby script, which makes sense. Anyway, I understand what Freddie is trying to say. He's not disappointed that the movie was not R-rated. But he is upset that he was lied too and that the script had been changed from the original. It makes sense. However, I imagine that it is a common occurrence where the final product is quite different from the one originally presented. Freddie seems to be very strict about things, which may explain why he isn't working as hard anymore. He seems to appreciate Scooby for what it is now. I wonde...
