The real Whitefish Story

This is a compilation of several days of fishing: This video is for those of you who enjoy fishing but do not have a camera or a sonar/flasher. When there is no bite and you think there are no fish down there think again! You can sometimes sit for hours and they will pick & peck at it all the time and most times it’s so light you will never feel it. Many times whitefish are just eating the small worms that are on the bottom. Those worms are eating the dead zebra mussels and in the sand, as you jig and rustle up the sand the worms are eaten by the whitefish. Whitefish can be finicky fish, and are very curious; they can be hungry and will still not bite, just nibble. They sometimes like a slow steady jigging approach, other times they want it fast and aggressive. Most times using a camera I jig aggressive to draw them in then lighten up and just vibrate on the bottom. If they start to leave jig aggressivly once or twice and they may turn and come right back. Being able to see what they want that particular moment is the key to changing your jigging style, or bait, if they are biting aggressively, you can go to a bigger bait with a full minnow and only the bigger fish will take it. Bigger bait bigger fish as they say. The really hungry fish don’t mess around the just come in and hit the bait. Watch how many fish look at the bait, but then just do a drive by. You normally don’t see this footage as it is kind of boring, so I edit it out and give you the bite above and below the surface of the ice. I thought I would make a video so you could see the real story. With the camera sometimes you get jumpy and set the hook a little soon and get a snag under the jaw, but they taste the same! The last fish in this video went from bait to bait for five minutes before finally leaving without biting. All John and I could do was laugh, fishing is fun! Good luck.
