Finding Comfort in Our Old Wounds

Symptoms of mental illness that persist beyond adolescence are a sign of deep wounding. They are a sign that we never found a deep place of comfort within our lives, our families, and ourselves.

Without a "comfort zone", it's not possible to effectively step out of it. The baseline level of discomfort that deep wounds leave you stuck with make it impossible to tolerate changes that feature discomfort - which all meaningful changes feature. It's too much to handle.

As we search for the comfort that would enable us to tolerate the discomfort that's necessary to change our lives, we might only run into the pseudo-comfort of old wounds. It's not enough.

I go into detail in this video.
