This past International Women's Day Burger King rolled the dice and took a huge risk with their social media PR.
Burger Kings UK Twitter account made a thread on Twitter announcing that they are starting a scholarship program to help women pursue their dream, as well as tweeting out some facts about how women disproportionately make up 20% of chefs in the industry.
Now that sounds pretty progressive right? Well, that's not how this tweet thread started, Burger King tweeted all of that information by first initially tweeting and I quote, “Women Belong In The Kitchen”.In an effort to clickbait users into hearing about their scholarship program and statistics about women in the culinary industry its looking like their plan has backfired.
It's crazy because they probably could have made that one tweet or just played it safe and call yourselves Burger Queen for the day but yall really thought you did something here anyways my name is Clyde Smith back with another edition of famous news, please be sure to like and subscribe to stay int he loops with everything famous now let's get into that video.
After making the tweet this past Monday, the account has since deleted the tweet and began their apologies.
In a follow-up tweet, Burger King said “We hear you. We got our initial tweet wrong and we’re sorry, We will do better next time.
It's not like this was just a tweet either they took out a full-page ad in the New York Times with the words on it, so clearly this was more than just a few tweets and was a whole ass campaign.
This is a great example of impact being more important than intent as obviously this wasn’t meant to be malicious but you don get to choose peoples reactions, and it's just a wild statement so let me be clear in saying, Women belong where ever they want to belong, see how easy that is anyways what do you guys think, let me know in the comment section down below my name is Clyde Smith and this has been famous news.
