Charlize Theron is a South-African-born model who went on to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Growing up in the city of Johannesburg, Charlize spent time as a child on her parent’s farm before attending the National School of the Arts. Then, after winning a local modeling competition, she was selected to travel to Milan, Italy, on a one-year contract at the age of just 16. Eventually, she found herself in New York City, training to become a dancer, but a knee injury would force her to cut that dream short. Looking for a new goal to pursue, she moved to Los Angeles in 1994. Success didn’t find her immediately, but one day while at a bank, cashing a check her mother had sent to her to help with rent, Charlize was discovered by a talent agent. Within eight months, she had landed a non-speaking part in the Stephen King adaptation, “Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest”.
