How To Use Any USB Controller on an OG Xbox

What do you do if you want to use modern controllers on an original Xbox? The team over at Brook Gaming has their excellent Wingman XB2 adapter for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Xbox Series S and X, but since it uses a USB connector it can't plug into the original Xbox. We found a $7 adapter on Amazon, however, which allows us to plug into an original Xbox port which will let us show you How To Use Any USB Controller on an OG Xbox. Let's check it out.

There isn't much to this adapter cable, and that's a good thing. It basically just plugs right into an Xbox and allows you to plug any USB connector into it. The one thing I did not realize was that there is a top and a bottom to an original Xbox connector, which shows you how often I play the Xbox. I plugged in the Wingman XB2, connected the adapter to my Xbox, and followed the pairing procedures for the wingman. After a few seconds, my Blue Shock controller from my Xbox Series S was paired.

Overall responsiveness was terrific, it felt just like I was playing on my Xbox One S, to be honest with you. All of the triggers, face buttons, Rumble, and everything worked exactly like it should.

I did try to use my Rival Game Labs Pro Controller from my Nintendo Switch with this as well. The button mapping just was not correct, however, I know there is a way that I can program this using a web interface, but at least out of the box, this was not an ideal solution. But it will get there.

This is a great solution that only costs a couple of bucks if you are having trouble finding quality Xbox controllers or don't like the original Xbox Duke controller or S controller. I fall under the latter, I do not like the original Xbox controllers at all, but this allows me to have great control in a more comfortable layout.
