Laurie Gaddis Barrett, speaking for the Parents United RI group, responds to changes in House bill H6066 that would expand protection for the availability of obscene sexual materials in school libraries, museums and their staff.
She first reminds the House Judiciary Committee that in 2022, Senate Judiciary were aghast at obscene materials presented to them via emails at their request. Senate Judiciary had no idea this material existed in school libraries and found them disturbing.
Laurie showed how a single phrase change of ‘educational, government,’ can be added to the current House bill thus protecting and indemnifying anyone in a public school system against obscenity or pornography charges if part of their work assignment.
