Unfortunally for Ukraine, no matter how many weapons they have they cant conquer Crimea and to destroy it to pieces would mean to be like the Russians. Sometimes you have to give up something because you really dont have a choice. Ukraine could try and conquer Crimeea but that would be very costly. I think the most probable situation is a stall, but with a stall the promised "Grand" Ukranian offensive would loose its appeal. And to drag the war for another year is not really a solution either. Russia is also having some blowback from allies which told Putin to try and close the conflict as soon as possible and he said: But it is not us who dont want to negociate but Ukraine. He kinda checkmated Ukraine now. Even if Putin didnt achieve his objective from the start of the war, at this point Russia's Army is in the defensive and only has to hold as much land as they can. Which they do. At this point Russia wants to negociate to hold up as much land as they can. Its a clasical strategy in war employed by the Russian Empire, to stop the war you have to give up teritories. At this point with each day Ukraine not going to the negociation table, Ukraine position weakens even if they gain small teritories. And yes, the negociation table means the current military situation, what is lost is not given back. With each day Ukraine looses credibility for this war, Russia too in the front of allies (especially India) but at least they have the advantage that they really want to negociate now. Putin knew this would happen and the people around him are happy generally that some teritorial gains were made.
