AT THE HARDWARE STORE

Another frustrating thing about the electronics or optics sighting system is the correct screws to mount your pistol red dot sight (RDS) optics. Up to this time all the RDS manufacturers have not standardized the use of universal screws by every maker for their optics ready pistol models. The RDS optics I bought did not come with the right mounting screws. It came with a 50-40x3/8” SAE STD screws but I needed a 40-40x3/8” for my RMR cut Glock 17 Gen 3 slide.
The industrial store has four aisles stocked with over a million of different sizes and specifications (SAE/Standard or Metric) and it’s time consuming if you don’t know what kind of screws you’re looking for. With the help of the local McFadden-Dale industrial hardware store staff, David & Norma, I was able to get the exact screws that I need. While at the local store, I bought also a replacement 1/4x20x 1 1/4” SAE/STD stainless screw for my oldie & rugged, USA-made SafeLok camera tripod. I’ll it attach with a 3D-made rifle head mount I bought from eBay, thus coverting it as a shooting tripod. Music credit: “Nuts, bolts, and screws,” Humming House, You Tube audio library.
