Let's go back to a trip I made to see the "Titan 2" nuclear missile.
In service 1962 to 1987. The Titan II contained one W-53 nuclear warhead, there were originally 54 Titan II Strategic Air Command missiles. Carrying the largest nuclear warhead ever deployed on an ICBM by the United States, and with a range of 5,500 miles. Fifty-four Titan II ICBMs were deployed in groups of eighteen around three Air Force Bases, with the first units coming on alert in early 1963.Titan II missiles were designed to be launched from underground missile silos that were hardened against nuclear attack. This was intended to allow for the United States to ride out a nuclear first strike by an enemy and be able to retaliate with a second-strike response. February 25th,23 Sahuarita, AZ
