CHRISTMAS FAILURE

I was on autopilot, and all I could think about was not failing. Yet, I was. I can remember several years in a row at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I would get up at 4 a.m. and cook for our entire family and our extended family. I would recruit my kids to join in, and the music would play as we cooked up a storm. But as our family members would arrive and our four tables beautifully set, I would serve the food and then disappear into our bedroom.

I had nothing left to give anyone. I was mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted. I made every holiday as memorable as I could for everyone but myself.

For everyone, delicious delights, my husband, and his father personally served dinner at their favorite spots at the table each time. But my strive for perfection left me empty.
