An Alberta woman who appears to have been injured by the combination of the AstraZeneca and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines received a federal vaccine injury compensation award.
What is Bell's Palsy?
Bell's palsy is a condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face. In most cases, the weakness is temporary and significantly improves over weeks. The weakness makes half of the face appear to droop. Smiles are one-sided, and the eye on the affected side resists closing.
The NIH notes that Bell's palsy isa rare adverse event reported in COVID-19 vaccines and they recommend Further studies with larger sample sizes are necessary to assess the association between Bell's palsy and the dose-response of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The FDA strongly believes that the known and potential benefits of COVID-19 vaccination greatly outweigh their known and potential risks, and recommend that people continue to get vaccinated as recommended.
