A meteor belonging to the Taurid Shower exploding over Casper, Wyoming in November 2022. The Taurid meteor shower is a long-lasting meteor shower that occurs annually in late October and early November. The shower is caused by debris from Comet Encke (The Southern Taurids), and asteroid "2004 TG" (The Northern Taurids) and typically produces only a few meteors per hour. However, the Taurids have been known to produce "fireballs" or exceptionally bright meteors. The Taurids are also referred to as the Halloween Fireballs due to their occurrence around Halloween.

The Younger Dryas Impact Theory suggests that a comet or comet fragment struck the Earth around 12,900 years ago, which would have caused a mass extinction event and led to the end of the Clovis culture. The theory posits that the Taurid meteor stream is the remnant of this comet.
