PISTOL OPTIC TRENDS

RED DOT SIGHTS are now used by the military and law enforcement, competition shooters, hunters, and gun enthusiasts worldwide since it was introduced by Aimpoint in 1975. As the firearms industry followed suit and embraced its use, the newest trend is they are offering electronic or optics sighting system ready on their model products as a standard feature. Whether a shooter needs it for quicker target acquisition or to assist their aging or poor eyesight, pistols on sale nowadays come with premounted or optics ready slides. It’s still very confusing to get into it since various red dot sights manufacturers like Aimpoint, Holosun, Leupold, Trijicon, Riton, Swampfox, and Vortex have their individualized cut or footprint and you have to use particular adapter plate to fit to their optic specific products. These RDS manufacturers have not standardized the universal footprint mount to use for pistols. For now, red dot sights is not one size fits all. Regardless, RDS is here to stay and as mentioned by USCCA writer, George Harris, on his “Electromagic” article on Concealed Carry magazine, Feb/Mar 2023 issue: “Electronic sights are the way of the future.” To keep everything in perspective, if the shooter opts to either use optics or stick on iron sights on a carry, keep in mind what’s best on your EDC to easily operate for self-defense to oneself and to keep your love ones safe. As in defensive handgunning, train to be proficient of whatever you choose. HERE ON THIS VIDEO: As I’m new to RDS and my Glock 17 Gen 3 is not optic ready (new Glocks with modular optic system [MOS] are), I bought an optic premounted RMR complete slide from custom builder Clint Corbin at a good buy. I then purchased a Primary Arms entry-level CLX full size red dot model (“Great price” by USCCA writer/reviewer Chip Eberhardt) which perfectly mounted to my new slide. As suggested by expert RDS shooters you can always upgrade to high end optics later once you’re well verse with its use. Music credit: “Optic,” Vegas Soul, You Tube audio library.
