This March Brown - American is another old fly that is in Ray Bergman's book Trout ( page 437, Plate #5 ). I tied this fly because I tied the March Brown English Male last week and I wanted to highlight the differences between the two. The American version is darker than the English version and also has no tail. I think both are great flies for the early season and both will come alive when fished. It would be interesting to research the background on both these flies to see just where they were developed and the reasoning behind the material choices. However, since they both have been around for almost a hundred years it might be a moot point as both catch fish. - - Enjoy
