Pence: history will hold Trump accountable over Capitol attack

Former Vice President Mike Pence has criticized his former boss, Donald Trump, by stating that history will hold him responsible for his involvement in the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol.

Pence, who was serving as the vice-president at the time, was present in the Capitol when a large group of Trump supporters stormed the building, aiming to obstruct the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, in which Trump lost to Joe Biden.

Pence, in his role as Senate president, presided over the ceremonial task of approving the votes of the electoral college, the Guardian reported.

On Saturday at the Gridiron dinner in Washington, Pence told journalists and their guests: “President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election, and his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable.”
