Dutchess Tiger running, playing, and being silly. I absolutely love that the cats at Big Cat Rescue have plenty of space to run and play. Watching the tigers, and other cats, running, playing, and being silly truly makes my day brighter.

While we wish all these cats could be set free to live in the wild as nature intended for them, we understand the many reasons they cannot just go free.

Since they cannot go free, we try to give them the best life we can. Here at Big Cat Rescue, we choose not to breed more cats for life in cages.

DO YOU KNOW WHY these cats cannot go free?

1) It is illegal to turn captive-born and raised wild cats free.

2) They were denied the lessons they would have learned from their mothers.

3) Since they have relied on humans their entire lives for food, etc, if they were to be set free, they would not know to avoid humans. This could, and probably would lead to animal-human conflicts and dangerous encounters.

4) For decades, unscrupulous breeders and 'pet owners' have inbred and cross-bred with no regard to bloodlines until NO tiger in captivity, except those in official SSP programs, has a lineage that can be traced back to the wild. This means the tigers from circuses and the exotic pet trade have pretty mixed-up DNA. That messed up DNA would weaken the species in the wild, not save it.

BIG CAT TV is a close look into our day-to-day operations, the conservation efforts we support, and the exotic feline residents of "Big Cat Rescue" in Tampa, FL. USA.
