GOD’s long-awaited promise to Abraham and Sarah is fulfilled with the birth of Isaac. Isaac’s circumcision, in turn, fulfills GOD’s commandment to Abraham. It also verifies that Isaac is the one to fulfil the promise of an heir to Abraham.
After Isaac is weaned, Sarah demands that Abraham cast out both Hagar and her son. GOD assures Abraham, who is upset, that he will provide for Ishmael, so Abraham sends Hagar and Ishmael into the wilderness with provisions.
Probably a few years, although it is unknown exactly how long it was. 22:1 It happened after these things, (all of CH 21) that GOD tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.”GOD = ElohimHaya = here indicating an indefinite time referring to Isaac’s birth and the removal of Hagar and Ishmael:

We are not told of any response from Abraham. Other than doing what GOD Command
