How to Make Tallow and Prep Your Pantry with Healthy Animal Fats | STOP Using SEED OILS!

Thanks for joining me in the kitchen today to make some tallow! Tallow is a wonderful animal fat to use in place of the seed oils that are so common today. Our ancestors almost exclusively used animal fats until pretty recently! Seed oils were introduced for human consumption in the early 1900’s, before that, they were just a gross waste product!

I am delighted to see the movement to get back to these healthier and more sustainable animal fats. It is so simple and cost effective to render your own tallow, lard, schmaltz etc… at home, all you need to do is source some kidney fat (aka leaf fat or heart fat), or other fat, preferably from grass fed animals, chop it up nice and small, cook it low and slow until it melts down into liquid goodness, strain it into sterilized jars and either store in the freezer or on a cool pantry shelf! Easy!

I recently got some local grass-fed wagyu fat (what I'm processing in today's video) to restock my supply for $30 and it rendered down to 24 pints of tallow! Ask around your community, a lot of animal fat ends up as waste product, so farmers are usually happy to sell it for a good price.
