“Mourning for the Loss of Worship”
31st in our series the Prophet Zephaniah

I. The Lord God Promised ‘I Will Gather’ - Zephaniah 3:18
* A. The children of Israel had been scattered because of rebellion and disobedience to the Law of God
* 1. Nations are judged in this world
* 2. Blessed is the nation - Psalm 33:12
* B. Judah had been taken captive to Babylon - 2 Chronicles 36:19-21
* 1. Jeremiah’s prophecy stated captivity would extend for seventy years - Daniel 9:2
* 2. God’s Word cannot be broken, all prophecies will come to pass exactly as stated in the Word of God
* a. The prophecies of what is to come are an important source of comfort to God’s people
* b. Jesus gave us end times prophecies to comfort and prepare us - Mark 13:24-27
* c. To the end that we should watch and pray -Mark 13:33

II. Those Who Mourn over the Solemn Assembly - Zephaniah 3:18
* A. The Lord appointed Seven Sacred Assemblies - bulletin front
* 1. Every adult male was to appear before the Lord in Jerusalem - Exodus 23:17
* 2. The exile brought an end to these assemblies as the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed
* a. Some carried on as if nothing had changed
* b. The godly mourned this loss - Matthew 5:4 
* B. The sacrifice of Praise to God - Hebrews 13:15
* 1. In the New Covenant, we don’t need to travel to Jerusalem to worship the Lord - Matthew 18:20
* 2. Those whom our Lord will bless are those who long for the sacred assembly, those who mourn when it is lacking
* a. They do not forsake it - Hebrews 10:24-25
* b. They worship the Lord - Psalm 96:9
