BEFORE finding herself in the middle of a whirlwind of dating controversy and becoming TLC’s biggest small star, Pittsburgh native Shauna Rae was born in the year 1999 and almost immediately thereafter entered into the fight of her life. Despite being 23 years old today, Shauna stands at just three-foot-ten and weighs only fifty pounds as a result of the invasive brain cancer treatment that she underwent as an infant. Shauna was only 6 months old when her mother, Patricia, noticed a bump on her baby girl’s head. This bump would turn into a grade-four glioma [GLAI-OW-MUH] diagnosis. There are, of course, many different types of brain cancer. Gliomas are a tumor that occurs in the brain and spinal cord. When a glioma registers as grade-four like with Shauna, they’re referred to as a glioblastoma -- largely considered to be the most aggressive form of brain cancer and one with no cure. Standard treatment usually involves surgery followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy. For Shauna that turned into three-and-half-years of hell. More recently, that series has begun to focus on Shauna’s pursuit of love – in particular with a man named Dan Swygart.
