Musical Response to Cultural Appropriation Accusation: May I Sing of Thee?

After leading an evening of sacred music a few years back, I was accused of cultural appropriation by one of the attendees. She believed that I needed permission from a spiritual authority (monk, guru) to sing in various world traditions. While pondering the situation in the subsequent months, I was inspired by the idea that I could ask God directly if I could sing His praises. This was the origin of the song just completed: "May I Sing of Thee?" 🙏
