Europe faces a war raging in its immediate neighborhood, with Ukraine fighting to defend itself against Russian aggression and a migrant crisis raging in the Baltic region. While Poland is spending a fortune to take in millions of Ukrainian refugees, Brussels refrains from actively supporting Warsaw – not least because the PiS government, despite its Eurosceptic leanings, has made clear that it would rather break its relationship with Germany than cooperate with Brussels on foreign policy and security issues.
